On June 6, 2016 at approximately 2:41pm, officers responded to the intersection of Highland Ave. and Chestnut St. for a report of multiple shots being fired. Shortly after officers arrived on-scene, a male subject with a gunshot wound was reportedly dropped off at John Randolph Medical Center seeking treatment. The preliminary investigation revealed that the lone victim was on foot traveling through the aforementioned intersection when he encountered three armed subjects who had exited a vehicle and who for reasons unknown began to shoot at him. The victim sustained a single non-life threatening gunshot wound to one of his lower extremities while fleeing from the assault. The offenders were observed leaving the area in a white in color, Lincoln 4-door style vehicle. The victim has since been transferred to a local area hospital for further medical treatment.

The Hopewell Police Department continues to investigate this matter and is requesting that the unidentified “Good Samaritan” that transported the victim to the hospital contact Detective Mike Parsio of the Criminal Investigations Unit at (804) 541-2284 as he may hold information critical to the investigation. Additionally, any person(s) who may have been traveling in and around the area at the time of this incident and observed any suspicious person(s) or vehicle(s) are also highly encouraged to contact the Hopewell Police Department or the Hopewell/Prince George Crime Solvers at 541-2202. You can also text-a-tip anonymously. Simply add "274637 (CRIMES)" to your Contacts list on your cellular phone and then text "igotcha" along with your message/tip.
